TheMoroccan company M2M Group and the Calypso Networks Association announce thecreation of a common working party on the convergence between public transport, driver's licences and electronic car registration documents. M2MGroup , through the Assiaqa consortiumwith Sagem Securité and Attijari Capital Risque , is in charge of the implementation, exploitation, financingand the maintenance of the new management system for driver's licences and carregistration documents in Morocco of the expansion over 4 next years of morethan 11 million driver's licences and electronic car registration documents»without contact, on the JavaCard technology base. Thisplan was launched in 2006 by the Moroccan Ministry of Transport as part of alarge national program of dematerialization in the public administration toimprove and update services returned to the citizens, reinforcing road safetyand raising the administration's income by automating fine collecting. Inparallel Calypso Networks Association completed Calypso developmentssuccessfully as applet (independent software of the hardware component)chargeable on demand, on support without contact, compatible with the JavaCardplatform. Soit is no longer necessary to make cards specifically intended for transportusage; the Calypso applet can be loaded at any instant of the card's lifestyle) on Java cards. The JavaCard platform is the international standard themost widely diffused for smart cards (2 thousand billion SIM telephone have aOS Java). Calypsopresents in this field two incontestable trumps: its secure conception based onthe use of microprocessors components, and its absolute compliance with all international standards (especially on theorganization of files ISO 7816-4): Calypso is currently the only technologywith this perfect compliance with standards. The Calypso applet can thereforebe loaded on a JavaCard support withoutany modification of the operating system. The performance problems (length oftransaction) which constituted a brake in the use of Java cards are now raised, the available JavaCard platforms allowing a transaction time of 200 ms withCalypso, perfectly compatible with the needs of the computer ticketing intransport. Theshared working party, created by AXIAQA and Calypso Networks Association, willhave as goal to validate the technical feasibility of the loading capacity ofthe applet on a driver's licence or electronic car registration documents, toconfirm of long term compatibility , and to define the stages and correspondingprocedures, from personalization for the next generations to after delivery tothe user for the already issued cards. M2MGroup and Calypso Networks Associationwill make a presentation of the first conclusions of the working group in theconference, organized as part of the"Salon Cartes 2009" in Villepinte (www.cartes.com), on November 17th, 2009 at 4:30 pm (C 03 : multi-applications) . ForRedouan Bayed, president of M2M Group this initiative corresponds to the commitment taken on by the groupingin relation to the Transport Departement to search for multi-applicativesopenings given by the system, to update services to the citizens and to createsynergies between the operators of the sector and mainly transport companies, by offeringfor a marginal cost, supplementary services on the driver's licence card(public transport tickets, payment of the road-transport tolls). ForPhilippe Vappereau, President de Calypso Networks Association, it is anexceptional opportunity to show on alarge-scale the capacity of Calypso to be displayed on existent Java cards, tolead to an offer of ideal intermodality, while associating the car and thepublic transport and it could be an example for many countries.
