Can you Philippe Vappereau in few words introduce yourselves and CNA?

Philippe Vappereau: I am in charge of the systems of information of travellers in RATP and since may 2008 I am the chairman of the Calypso Networks Association (CNA). Calypso Networks Association is a non for profit organization, residing in Brussels and was established by the 5 Calypso technology founders from the cities of Brussels in Belgium, Lisbon in Portugal, Konstanz in Germany, Paris in France and Venice in Italy. Calypso is the electronic ticketing standard which defines the secured dialogue between cards and terminal. It is implemented in 21 countries and more than 80 cities. It represents 29 licensed suppliers, 30 million contactless cards and 300,000 terminals.

The association hinges around three working groups:

- A ‘Specifications and Technical Development’ group - for providing an appropriate answer to transit operator needs.

- A ‘Compatibility and Interoperability’ group - ensuring that any Calypso labelled card can work with any Calypso labelled terminal.

- A ‘Promotion and Standardisation’ group - for participating in national and international standardisation initiatives.

What were your first decisions as chairman of CNA?

Ph.V.: We consider that the next three years will be decisive for the choice of the technology for electronic ticketing applications in the world and in order to position Calypso we have defined a new strategy including the supply of services and products and different tools for promotion and communication.

What services and products will be supplied by CNA?

Ph.V.: CNA will supply key products and services to guarantee their quality and to ensure their continued existence. Main services are the certification process and the training and support for implementation of Calypso. Taking into account the experiences accumulated through Calypso projects all over the world we will issue a guide of best practices.

In the different regions of the world CNA is selecting consultants with high competence and will have the list available for all the Calypso users.

Concerning products we will focus on applets and security modules (SAMs).

CNA owns the specifications to implement Calypso in applets and it had its own V3 compliant APPLET developped. It is provided free of charge for all CNA members.

How do you intent to improve  international communication and promotion for Calypso?

Ph.V.: This letter is the first tool of communication and it will be also the entry point to our new website . Our main goal is to increase the number of visitors by improving its positioning on search engines. We want to have a very active forum and we will put in place the right organization for a better reactivity to the questions of our visitors.

We also intent to publish in the second quarter of 2009 what we call the Calypso Bible which will be the document of reference for the presentation of Calypso including technical specifications and security features, advantages versus other solutions, business model, references and key figures... It will be available on the website and could be used by all the partners for the promotion of Calypso.

We will organize conferences in different countries concerning the markets of application of Calypso, open to all the users, prospects, suppliers and consultants. They will give the priority to users’ accounts and they will be a place of exchanges between users and suppliers.

We will propose each year technical seminars to end users, suppliers and consultants. They will focus on technical subjects about Calypso: technical specifications, security features, best practices for implementation taking into account existing projects...
