For its inauguration, scheduled for early 2010, the Algiers tramway
will be equipped with a mixed magnetic and contactless ticketing
system. This is the option selected by the Entreprise du Métro d'Alger,
the project authority acting on behalf of the Algerian Ministry of
Transport. The Alstom group, acting as engineer, has just appointed ACS
to supply the ticketing system. The project will be implemented during
2009 and consist in rolling out the central system and then equipping
the 38 trains on the East line with 370 validators, about 10 ticket
vending machines and fifty retail outlet terminals. This first line
will link the eastern suburbs of Algiers with the city centre, a
distance of 23 kilometres, and will transport around 170,000 passengers
daily.
