Version 3 of Calypso not only is compatible with ISO 14 443 A-B but also includes triple DES security and JavaCard mechanisms. Those features allow to implement Calypso in NFC mobile phones or ATM without specific hardware addition and by the way to reach an high level of security without costly investment. But the main advantage is certainly the opportunities of new services in particular the possibility of remote distribution of tickets by downloading them in Calypso devices : cards , mobile phones or USB keys... The cost of distribution of tickets with complex pricing represents between 5% and 15% of the receipts, depending on the channels, and is a main economical stake. But the commercial stake is also very important as the traditional channels of distribution are naturally limited by the location of the desks and by the operational time and can be overloaded during certain period of important sales . The remote distribution of tickets through ATMs or mobile phones or computers gives appropriate answers to those issues : - always available it is possible to buy tickets from anywhere at any time - it increases significantly the number of channels and decreases the waiting time - last but not least the cost of investment is lower as it does not need to implement new equipments. Thus this possibility of downloading data in a Calypso device is very positive for transport application but it offers also many opportunities when Calypso is used in a multiservices scheme and for example in cities for access to other services as it will be possible for the user to upgrade his profile and his rights without moving along. |
